Welcome to Poppies & Pages formerly Let’s Jess This Mess! I have been doing a lot of soul searching the last couple of months and I’m been feeling the universe pull me in a new direction. So we’re going with it.
Originally, I started this blog as a creative outlet and potential business during the 2020 quarantine. I was feeling a little lost in my job, concerned that I might not have the most stable spot (as so many of us did during that time). I was looking for a side hustle. I was hoping to open a thriving professional organizing business and wanted to start by writing about tips and tricks and sharing those here and on my instagram. And thus, Let’s Jess This Mess was formed.
As the year pressed on and I went through big life stuff (hello! I had a baby. BIG life stuff!) this became much more purely creative than the business related. Things also stabled post pandemic in my career and I set the thought of running my own professional organization business on the shelf- probably permanently but never say never.
The name could still work, even now, but didn’t feel quite right. This is when I found books. In the throws of postpartum I needed to find community and a hobby that wasn’t going to be too much for me to commit to while trying to keep a tiny human alive. I found the best book club and a whole community in the book world. I want to keep sharing what I’m reading and my thoughts, therefore, the “pages” part of my name.
But, I still want to share my life here in California, hence the “poppies” part of my name. This was chosen for a few reasons: 1) I was raised right on the hills of California and the state flowers blooming every year are my favorite. 2) The poppy is the birth flower for the month of August which was when my son was born. and 3) it’s the symbol of remembrance in the UK and my grandfather fought in the RAF so it makes me think of family and friends that have passed. Plus, I’ve always loved poppies and think they are so pretty. I will also use this space to document my travels as a journal, of sorts, so that will always be here.
I hope you continue to join me on this journey of creative outlet, self discovery and sharing things I love with all my friends, internet and real life.
Love you,
Jess
P.S. I also had a dream that my best friend moved down to San Diego from LA and we opened an independent bookstore called Poppies & Pages. Let’s just put that dream out into the universe and see if it happens 😘
P.P.S. New domain name coming soon but for now the name is change is solely on IG. Turns out it can take up for 60 days to transfer names! Thanks a lot internet.
