You bet your butt there are some affiliate links up in here. I’ll receive a small commission when you purchase from my links, at no extra cost to you. Thanks for supporting my blog!
I know you’ve been wondering so let’s get into it!
You organize once and you’re good to go! WRONG.
Organization is an ongoing process. The biggest thing is setting up a system and tweaking it (sometimes multiple times) until you get it right! This is where hiring a professional organizer might be the quickest way to get your system set up. They’ve done a lot of leg work and typically have solution ideas on hand and ready. Even still sometimes a “tune up” to the system makes it run just a little smoother.
Professional Organizer’s homes are always clean. LOL.
I had to remove myself to stop laughing to be able to keep typing. We are humans just like you. Life gets messy, work gets busy, the kids get crazy… real life isn’t perfect. However, having systems in place that help keep the clutter to a minimum and the ability to pick up quickly and put everything in its place, is a game changer. Suddenly everything is a little easier and you can breathe a little deeper. P.S. Am I a “professional organizer”? No. But I have definitely been called in by friends to help them out and they “pay me” in food. Does that count?
Getting that insta worthy organization costs a ton of money. NOPE!
As you might have seen, I love me a bargain. If I can get something cheaper than someone else I brag about it and do a happy dance. There are so many discount places for organization supplies from the dollar store (peep my Dollar Tree favs), to thrift stores, to your local buy nothing group. Heck, even Walmart has those clear containers of your decanting dreams. If you’re looking to save a buck, rest assured it can be done and look just as gorgeous as those instagram accounts you swoon over.
Clear pantry storage is the only way to go. NO WAY, JOSE!
Decanting isn’t for everyone. There I said it. I loved the idea of those beautiful clear air tight bins for everything from sugar to Hot Cheetos. But in practice, it just didn’t work out. I don’t know about your house, but we not only eat through our snacks at a rapid pace, we also like to change things up. One week we’re cracker heavy, the next, nary a cracker in sight (please note the use of nary, you’re welcome). We found that decanting those and labeling the decanters didn’t work in our household. We opted for generally labeled baskets instead. So now instead of a clear container labeled “chips” we have a basket labeled “snacks”. If this works for you= game charge. If not and the clear bins are your jam though- decant on, I support you 100%!
Everything has to be labeled. NO, but also KINDA?
I know, I know. Some of you are screaming at the screen but hear me out. I love my label maker, my cricket, my chalk pens etc. And, yes, I am a labeler and tend to label the crap out of everything. BUT, there are some things that just don’t need a label. For example, I’m not a big fan of labeling some baskets in my closet. I know which ones hold my swimsuits vs. hats because they are on different shelves and I can see right into them. It’s my closet and my system that I’ve had forever so I know where things go (not to mention so does my husband). NOW, please don’t stop labeling things. I’m just saying not everything HAS to be labeled. Ya feel me?
You HAVE to declutter. TRUTH.
I hate to break it to you, but 99.99999% of the time, you’re going to have to declutter. This is the most stressful part for a lot of people because it typically comes with baggage (I’ll elaborate more in a different blog). The good thing is countless studies show how good decluttering is for you and it’s 100% worth it!
