Every dang year the goal is to read more. I know I’m not the only one. BUUUT with being pregnant, giving birth and then staying up all night with Lincoln, reading took a backseat. Buuuuut, I was able to sneak some in. I tried to listen to books on all my walks and when I was breastfeeding instead of scrolling I tried (sometimes you just need mindless scrolling) to read on my kindle which I could do at night too. With all that in mind, I am pretty proud of the amount I read last year. I made a goal of 15 books read in 2022! LFG!
I tried to keep these short, 1-3 sentence reviews. In the future I hope to do reviews quarterly and then a recap at the end of every year.
Hope you enjoy!
The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger, ⭐️⭐️
We’ve all seen the movie, but the book was very different. Dare I say that the movie was better? The book left me rooting for Miranda instead of Andy and I think for that to happen something had to go wrong somewhere…
Revenge Wears Prada, The Devil Returns by Lauren Weisberger, ⭐️⭐️⭐️
…but I still read the second one. I actually liked it better than the first but I had to completely remove the characters from the first book. Then it becomes a book about a wedding and a horrible MIL which is more entertaining? The writing is definitely not great though and as I read in one goodreads review “luxe porn” (aka “oooh look at that designer” language).
The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quick read, great for an airplane or poolside. I got into a rom-com kick this year and you’ll see a lot of cliche, predictable, sappy and swell plot points. Bonus points for a diverse cast of characters.
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towels, ⭐️
Highly recommend to me and I’m not sure why. I found this book extremely boring and slow. I think the message of adversity really shines through but I found myself wishing the book was over.
Parental Guidance Aery Flynn, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Rom-com like no other. Very predictable and adorable and everything you expect out of a Hallmark Christmas Movie style plot.
Educated by Tara Westover, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🏆Best Read 2021🏆
I COULD NOT put this book down. Holy crap it is so good. I am absolutely intrigued by not only Tara’s struggle but everything her family believes and the lifestyle they lead. I knew there were people like this in America but to read a first hand account feels like you’re looking in on a whole different world.
The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo by Amy Schumer, ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I listened to this on audiobooks and I highly recommend. It was fun but I think it would not have hit as well on the page vs. Amy reading her words with comedic timing etc. All together, if you like Amy Schumer’s stand up, you’ll like this book.
Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer, ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had to. I read the Twilight books when they came out (ok, ok, saw the movies at midnight premieres too) so I had to read Edward’s view. It’s cheesy and nostalgic and everything you expect from this book. 3 stars because I did not remember how creepy Edward was!
The Flip Side by Shawn Johnson, ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great young adult read. Fun rom-com with some insights on how tough it is for Olympic athletes to maintain a social life with their high demanding training schedules. A very easy read that wraps up in a perfect bow.
